I’m sorry J.D. Salinger is dead. As a writer looking for a medium I relate to his impatience with category and the indecent pressures of a life you don’t really want. But if I had a quarter of Salinger’s talent and lived to be 91 I wouldn’t just take the creative Fifth for the last half of my life because, I dunno, I don’t trust nobody. Yesterday the world awoke and made coffee to the news that John Edwards probably made a sex tape with Rielle Hunter (see Babylon, Whore of). I don’t want to go on about it but if John Edwards were a ex-Hollywood beauty he’d be Kathleen Turner. As in: nobody ever fell so far, so fast. By comparison, Sarah Palin for vice-president is/was not all that bad. Am I Right?
